Passwordless sign-in
Five ways into your Mersal account — a code by email, SMS or WhatsApp, a WhatsApp conversation you start yourself, or a one-tap approval in the Mersal app.
A password is the weakest link in any account: it is forgotten, reused elsewhere, and leaked. Mersal offers five ways to sign in, all working side by side — you pick whichever suits the moment.
The methods
A code by email
Enter your email, receive a code, type it. No password.
A code by SMS
The same idea, to your phone number.
A code on WhatsApp
The code arrives in a WhatsApp conversation.
A conversation you start
Instead of waiting for a code, you message Mersal's number from WhatsApp and you are in.
Approve in the app
A notification in the Mersal Authenticator app you approve with one tap, or sign-in by scanning a QR.
When each one fits
- Email code — the most universally available, works from anywhere.
- SMS code — useful when you have no internet.
- WhatsApp — usually arrives faster than SMS, and carries no message cost.
- The conversation you start — best when a code does not arrive at all: you are not waiting on anything, you are sending. Mersal verifies the message came from the same number registered on the account, which is what stops anyone else using this route into your account.
- The app — best for daily users: one tap, no code to type.
The ladder
If one method fails the process does not stop there: the system moves automatically to the next available one. In practice that means a broken messaging gateway does not lock you out.
If no gateway is active
The WhatsApp methods need an active WhatsApp gateway on the platform. If every WhatsApp gateway is down the WhatsApp options simply will not be offered — use email or SMS.
Two-factor authentication
Passwordless sign-in does not replace two-factor authentication; the two work together. The first decides how you prove who you are, the second adds a layer on top of that.
