Mersal Assistant is a WordPress plugin that adds a complete AI layer to your site on two fronts at once: a visitor assistant — an elegant chat widget on your storefront that answers from your site's own knowledge base and searches your products — and an admin copilot inside wp-admin that performs real actions (sales reports, content drafting, plugin/comment/product management) the moment you ask in plain language.

What it adds to your site
Visitor chat widget
An assistant that answers visitor questions from a knowledge base built automatically from your pages and posts, with smart WooCommerce product search and inline suggestions.
Live conversations inbox
Every visitor conversation appears in your dashboard in real time with a sound chime and desktop notifications; any agent can jump in and reply manually at any moment.
Human hand-off + WhatsApp alert
A "Talk to an agent" button inside the widget escalates the chat and instantly sends the store owner a WhatsApp alert through your connected Mersal account.
Admin copilot
An assistant inside wp-admin that executes real commands: reports, content creation, product/order/coupon management, plugins, comments and users — always with your own permissions.
Assistant characters & appearance
The widget ships with nine animated cartoon characters (teacher, doctor, manager, developer, hijabi, chef, engineer and more) shown on the launcher and as the assistant avatar, with greeting/blink animations and a palette derived automatically from your chosen accent color. You control:
- Theme: light, dark, or auto based on the visitor's system.
- Accent color and font to match your brand.
- Screen side (left or right), with full Arabic RTL support.
- Welcome message and the teaser greeting that appears next to the launcher.
The knowledge base
The assistant learns from your site itself: it crawls the native WordPress sitemap or reads pages and posts directly, turning them into retrievable documents it cites in answers. Questions outside its knowledge can be routed to human escalation instead of guessing.
The admin copilot: what can it actually do?
The copilot is not an explain-only chatbot — it has real execution tools inside your site. Every tool re-checks the current user's capabilities before running and always prefers the reversible path (draft instead of publish, trash instead of permanent delete):

When you open the copilot you get a launcher with four ready-made tabs — Most Popular, Create & Generate, Audit & Optimize, Bulk Actions — each offering one-tap starter commands, and smart follow-up suggestions appear after every reply. The copilot is available from any wp-admin screen via a floating button, and inside the plugin dashboard itself.

Installation & setup
Download & install the plugin
Download the ZIP from mersal.it/Wordpress-Plugins and upload it via Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, then activate. If you already run any other Mersal plugin, one-click install is available from its Update Center.
Connect your Mersal account
From the plugin dashboard press "Login by Mersal" — a secure SSO link with no extra passwords. Connecting powers the AI through the Mersal AI gateway and the WhatsApp alerts used for human hand-off.
Build the knowledge base
In the Knowledge tab enable site-content sync and review the captured documents. Re-sync after any major content change.
Customize the appearance
Pick the character, theme, accent and font in the Appearance tab with a live preview, and set the welcome message and widget texts.
Enable human hand-off (optional)
In the hand-off settings choose the WhatsApp numbers that receive the "visitor wants an agent" alert; alerts are sent through your account's default WhatsApp gateway.
Limits & security
- Tunable rate limits: per-visitor chat requests per minute (default 30/min for chat and 300/min for light queries), adjustable from the Privacy settings.
- The copilot runs with the current user's permissions only — it can never do anything you can't, and every tool re-checks capability before executing.
- Replies are scrubbed of raw HTML and server errors before display, and no credentials ever reach the browser.
How it connects to the rest
- Hand-off WhatsApp alerts go through the same WhatsApp channel connected in your Mersal account, and AI replies run on the Mersal AI Pool gateway — no separate OpenAI key needed.
- On WooCommerce stores the assistant adds product search inside the widget, plus sales reports and product/order/coupon tools in the copilot.
- It works side by side with the OTP plugin and the rest of the Mersal plugin family, sharing one unified Update Center.
